Abstract

The most recent investigations performed by the TS-MME group concerning the CLIC project will be presented. The bi-metallic CuZr/Mo prototype rod obtained by HIP diffusion bonding has been characterized by mechanical (hardness, tensile, shear) and metallographic (grain size) testing, chemical composition analysis at the interface region and X-ray diffraction. Measured mechanical properties of the interface and of the CuZr matrix in the as-received state (as HIP-quenched) will be discussed. Thermal treatments have been applied in order to improve the mechanical properties of the CuZr matrix by a successful aging, while not affecting the Mo insert.
The instrumentation improvements achieved on the DC spark-testing enable to monitor the conditioning behaviour of Mo and W as a function of the number of discharges. The effect of the residual gas pressure on the conditioning behaviour of Mo has been investigated.

Pressure distribution calculations for the accelerating structures tested at present in CTF3 are in progress. The main aim of the results is to relate the vacuum gauge readings with the real pressure of residual gas present in the structures.
