CERN - European Organization for Nuclear Research

Minutes of the CLIC Meeting - 2 June 2006

Agenda:
30 GHz Copper-Structure High-Power Test Results
Post-Test Photographs of Molybdenum Irises
A Summary of High-Gradient Test Results
Speakers:
Alberto Rodriguez, Gonzalo Arnau Izquierdo, Walter Wuensch

Alberto presented the recent results of the 30 GHz Cu-structure. In particular, he showed the conditioning history, the results of the measurements of breakdown rate, dark current and RF power aquisitions.

Gonzalo
gave a detailed surface analysis of the Mo-iris-structure that was tested in the last run of 2005. Especially the front side of the first iris shows a strong surface modification with high peaks and craters, other irises (already the back side of the first iris) show significantly less damage.

Walter showed a summary of the achieved gradients at 11 and 30 GHz with a minimal scaling to a pulse length of 60 ns.

Walter reported on the progress of the new HDS-type Cu-structure presently under test in CTF3:
the structure does not show any particularly different behaviour compared to previous structures and has reached a peak power of 23MW for the 70ns pulse length, which corresponds to a gradient of 65MV/m. Presently, breakdown rate measurements are performed.
