Electron Cloud Effects in the CLIC Damping Rings

Abstract

The electron cloud is potentially a limiting factor for the beam intensity in the positron damping ring for CLIC. A study of electron cloud build up in the damping ring bending magnets and wigglers has been undertaken using the newly developed code Faktor2. Geometries with and without ante-chamber have been simulated and different ranges of photo-emission yields as well as secondary emission yields have been explored.
Using the output of the build up simulations, instability simulations using the HEADTAIL code have been then used to assess the possible detrimental effect of the electron cloud on the beam. The instability thresholds found through this study show that the present parameters could be already in an unstable region.
